SHINE 2Europe and the Dr José Lourenço Júnior Foundation started their collaboration for the international project SAA with a workshop with older adults at the Otília Lourenço Home.

The official partner in Portugal is SHINE 2Europe, a company from the Centro region whose mission is to promote inclusive communities. According to Juliana Louceiro, SHINE’s project manager, “age discrimination is a common and underestimated phenomenon, but it has consequences for victims and for society in general. This project will raise awareness and inform about the issue and involve different generations in this process. The collaboration with the Dr José Lourenço Júnior Foundation will undoubtedly be an important contribution to the development of SAA”.

The Dr José Lourenço Júnior Foundation is a non-profit Private Social Solidarity Institution from Abiul, municipality of Pombal, which develops its activity in Supporting Older Adults and promoting Digital Inclusion and Active Ageing projects. During the coming months, this new Associated Partner of the SAA project will collaborate in the co-creation of materials such as the game and the training kit, but also in the dissemination and future use of the project’s results.

Isabel Vaz Serra, President of the Board of Directors of the Dr. José Lourenço Júnior Foundation, highlighted the relevance of this partnership, which complements its social intervention, by creating synergies and complementarity between institutions. “Raising awareness on the issue of ageism, is essential for creating a fairer, more balanced, inclusive and responsible society and should cut across all ages, genders and social statuses.”

In a first activity of this partnership, two SHINE researchers went to the Otília Lourenço Home, where they presented some scenarios of the game to eight beneficiaries and three staff members of the institution. It was concluded that the scenarios represented realistic situations and that the solutions presented were plausible to be implemented.
